it's not as simple as The Daily Show mom and dad it's me and your Dad's Seafood actor Hydro ready for you hello everyone and welcome to this amazing wonderful night of poetry and art and celebration and I really they are fabulous parents Antoinette and boonie who are here to Showcase all of our amazing scholar work and without further adieu I'm going to pass it on to you thank you dr. Hodge we are watching it but instead of blasting up or blasted out marveling at the stars that are each other each one of us burning so brightly using that energy to change each of our world is changing all of the world in the process we are rocket but instead of blasting up were blasting it on Earth and galaxies within us that our home take hurry home display home resilience mean you we may have found it a little harder to bleed these days but with every breath we are living and with each breath a new opportunity is unfolding before us and within us I guess I'm giving birth to a new day like a note birth to a song like a rhythm giving birth to a dance or breast is giving voice to change we are rocket blasting outlasted in blasted up canceling the space and the time down between us filling it with art filling it with poetry filling it with Community if we shall overcome someday let that day be today even if only a night or moment or brat marveling at the stars out of each other each one of us burning so brightly using that energy to change each of our world changing all of the world in the process we are Rockets good night everyone and come to change thing I Showcase of Art and poetry this started as a project from the PTA diversity and Equity to me that the committee and we wanted to bring rmp which me and music and song to The Albi continuity and commemoration of Black History Month and somehow in the Conway it really just glue and it exploded and so we ended up then our Showcase of Art and poetry really have an opportunity that shine the light on all of you or wonderful Scholars and parents and teachers and community and really all my we had been celebrating Black History Month in art poetry I'm one of the ways in which we've been doing that is each classroom in the Yukon Community received one of Amanda Gorman two of her books so either a copy of change things or b e k a h 2 and then placed you in a bob also received the copy of the hill we climb and then each class also received one of the two bonus poetry books either a compilation of Langston Hughes poem or hip hop speaks to Children a celebration of poetry with a beat so each classroom has had the opportunity to really absorb these books reflect on these books and use inspired by our own art and the library has received pick up all 4 but then we open up the call to the community to submit I'm their own artwork that reflects the change that they would like to see or make a in their community and we're just overwhelmed by the responses yes play. I'm still the four books that I ate that I showed on the way just been overwhelmed by the response is so we're really going to have an opportunity to share that tonight but before we do that I want to toss it over to one of the organizers of this Eve here's some more I love my thing going on at the school this past month thank you for letting me so welcome everyone we are so delighted to see ever really excited by parent participation so thank you for being here parents thank you all students and whoever and I don't know I think Allie is probably your mom but whoever's under the alley Prince can we see your beautiful art and I cannot wait to be able to spot light you so we can show it off so keep it up it looks gorgeous but why should meet that works out how to close out Black History Month today with this beautiful Showcase from you by you and one of the things we did on campus was on Fridays if you're not aware that this is amazing opportunity for there's an art cart that Mr Rome and dr. Hodge host I don't know if it's every Friday but I know it's at least most Fridays when they can it's during recess and so it's a wonderful opportunity for some kids to sort of take a step back and sit in the shade and sit there and we had some wonderful quotes from various different books my own daughter like doing some crazy things I can see her in the screen so don't mind me the colors and beautiful quote and you'll see some of those for those of you who are not kindergarten but the older kids pick up at the back by the there's an Amanda Gorman sign and some of the art that was already hung up and I just wanted to say thank you for any of you who are on this call and we're just so excited to have seen that love from everyone was just so excited and really just warmed our hearts so a big congrats hit you all of you wonderful El Rincon rockets for just participating in and putting all your time and energy and passion into your beautiful art and black history month and with that I'm going to pass it over to the lovely Antoinette I'm really excited to see all the happy faces on the zoom call and those that don't have their cameras on I know that there's some smiley faces behind there and some kids that are eager to see their work I just want to apply to you all student you have done a phenomenal amazing job with all the artwork and all the time that you thought was insightful and I know there's a lot different issues going on in the world right now so should be able to encapsulate that and your illustrations in your poetry and your work is such a beautiful way to express yourself and to also alleviate the stress being a child being a grown-up. This showcase is extra special extra important because it's a reflection of all of us and it's a beautiful thing I right so here we have I had author Amanda Gorman we are celebrating her works on this month-end various other people that have contributed to literature Black History Month literature so here we have Amanda Gorman just a little background on her and Bobby shows her and specifics and I'm not quite sure how old she is but it's significant because of her being so young and standing up for Barack Obama's presidential inauguration and being able to go in front of all these people and giving an amazing speech about changed it really touched the hearts of many around the world not just in the United States great 23 that's a big thing I know a lot of us are a little ones were unable to even think of what 23 looks like at 4 5 6 7 and up but at 23 years being able to stand up in front of thousands and I'm National TV and just pouring out your heart and soul about what you want for this country is a beautiful thing and I know we're all capable of doing it one day as well all right one quote that always give you the Goosebumps was I can hear change humming and it's loudest loudest song I Don't Fear change coming and so I think alarm this quote let that simmer have you ever done something that you just felt have to be so brave to do and when you finally did it felt so good you see things happening around you but you think would be able to accomplish you had a big dream a big goal that you finally were able to meet change is a reflection of all of that and it could happen with just us just one single person all right so showcase submissions lineup this is how it's going to go so we have illustrations videos and written poetry and had so many awesome submission I tried my best to make sure that we had appropriate category for everybody I'm so if you see your name here just know that you'll be coming up in that water and if you see your picture come up on the screen and you would like to make a comment about it or if you see you at your video come up missing or some poetry that you may have put together and you see it come on the screen you're more than welcome to unmute your mic go ahead and choose it introduce yourself but it would be nice if specially for those that did the poetry writing be able to unmute their mic and give us a live on presentation hey we're starting off with illustrations and photography before I go any further did anybody see any of their work come up so far that they would like to speak about I can always go back and see your handiwork and Alex mine is the first one that came sing is it this one at Sears my dear the very first one this one this is amazing can you tell us about it look like two people holding hands different skin colors different clothes different hairstyles that's beautiful to see everybody coming together like that it's amazing you're very talented how do you pronounce your name is Olivia Olivia all right we're going to go to the next person baby did you want to see it so mine is the one that you the last one near W and did a picture of Annabelle should I read it if you can you can you can read that a few lines that are there up to your comfort level there's always a chance to come up the stairs to help someone and love others you may fall down but you can try again to loan to Build a Better Boy beautiful thank you so much for sharing that it is beautiful to hear it in your voice Leo thank you so this one I made it because I feel like even though we've made lots of like progress in our world with like gender equality lots of lots of women are still down my name is Sophia I'm so sorry Sophia and I I will change that in the official presentation okay I'm so sorry but this is lovely would you like to let us our community know what you mean by gender equality wait lots of I feel like lots of women still don't like yellow equal 2 minutes thank you we have an we have it at elementary school so many different types of Learners so it's really important that we all understand what this council is about Sofia this is awesome thank you so this is the Art Car we were talking about that was happening on Friday so it's always there so it's just such a joy I think dr. are you reading it to your kids if you can't they can't read it I can do that I am not so creepy but I'm going to do my best alright Eclipse there can never be light without Darkness those who strive for light will always find it but they will encounter Darkness on the way the darkness may be unwelcoming cruel painful strive for darkness by y calls all that damage Darkness and Light will always encounter causing an eclipse eclipse represents War Bloodshed unnecessary pain but Darkness and Light are the same things at War each other for darkness is simply just another shade of light both are the same but so different so why fight why not see that everyone is equal everyone has the right to their identity discrimination only causes pain racial discrimination gender discrimination anti-Semitism and however else you can discriminate against someone will only hurt Embrace who you are and let others do the same Sophie big incredible next up is meteor so I continued all right was I was on my way to school so I suddenly got my idea and then I wrote it all down on a Post-It bad we're all different we're all different yes it's true being different is what makes you you so enjoy two or three submission if you ain't get if you count our own and we were just overwhelmed by the response over 20 people sentence emissions even more share tonight so I'm just an odd community so we're going to do one last call to see if anyone would like to share this evening before we all share with one another by doing a group called so I'll walk you through in a moment but last call for change humming and its loudest proudest song I Don't Fear change I don't fear change coming and so sing a lot about the book the main character is joined by other people in our community and together they work to bring about change on my cleaning up a park building and accessibility ramp restoring a local market other people to join them they speak on about the changes that they're making using sentences that begin with I dream I sing I hum I use excetera so for example one of the lines I dream with the cries of tried two dreamers another one is I hung with a hundred Hearts each of us lifting a hand sew to create our own Community poem we ask each of you to spend two or three men thinking of why or two or me lie about change that begin with I sing I dream ice cream I have I use I show I talk I walk off I am to all of those pumps are on the screen in front of you understands one and this line can be about a change that you want to see or make like I sing of the change that I see this evening honors being call or I can be about how change makes you or others feel like I hum to the sound of my Beating Heart when I think of the rhythms of this evening or can be about how you would invite other people to join you and they can change like I walk the beat of my friends of Alvin Khan as we change the world together you'll be to be creative it can be read to make You Can Be lyric all that can be very literal literal and Ethan that invokes pain I'm so once you're done with your line I want you to type it into the chat the weather for the next two to three minutes thinking of a change how it makes us feel what kind of change you want to make and once you have your lying down sleeping in the chat if you want to do with me lines go ahead and do that and at the end of the next two to three minutes what we're going to do is we're going to school up to the beginning of the poem we will have just created together in the chat and we're going to read it out loud so you'd person will be there only I'm out loud but we do the whole poem together so we can capture a reading of electrons first ever change things Community tone but does anyone have any questions before we get started do you understand the assignment all right so we're going to take two to three minutes to work on your phone so we're going to take one more minute so if you're still working on your line unity I dream of the joy that sang Change Green I do not change I hope that Sunday every woman man and child and save ourselves as people because that is what we are we are equal anime hero and black I'm home thanks I walk in the pride of my gender ice cream with the agony of the past ice cream with the cries for justice and work to fix it I dream about the Wii and all of us being brave doesn't mean you're not scared it just means you can get to the hard and scary process to be brave and change the world I dream of love and harmony in our water stretch imagination I use my hands with gloves on to pick up trash to help the environment and to be nice to all people everywhere same for those without a voice without a platform but still they are full of Hope and Dreams ice cream too loud too often I need to remember to be quiet and listen more I scream and yell for change but it gets absorbed in a suffocating darkness that is our world past and present and into the future I walk to the rhythm of my friend I sing to the same dream I dream of that same time I walk with my ancestors and our future Generations leaders we are what the world is becoming and we know it won't be long we all hear change Drummond won't you sing along who makes change in the world I use words to spread change to help ears I use my words to show that people will belong Center and again with the words of a man what what's the world is becoming and we won't and we know it won't be long we all hear change Drummond won't you sing along ilv cotton that was absolutely wonderful this has been such an amazing evening and I apologize to Lauren because I forgot to mention her in the beginning but I do want to give a big huge shout out to Lauren and Antonio internet and two bun me for all of their hard work and dedication to supporting our students on campus during our fun Friday and two organizing the book and two coming and you know giving them out to the teachers and we just have amazing parents and families so I just really want to give a shoe show so what you just do a huge shout out and say thank you thank you thank you thank you everybody you and a big thank you to dr. Hodge for being just absolutely wonderful to the PTA for funding all of this but iversity and Equity committee to the to the teachers and staff who are absolutely amazing I'm too at the One Bookstore which is a black owned bookstore not too far away from her school where we purchase all of the books for the classroom and for the library and then of course part for all of you for being amazed artists and Poets and for coming out tonight and just like I mentioned in the shop but also to be can Eleanor for being amazing for having the first of all four leading the diversity and Equity committee and for allowing us to stop at Unity to showcase the beauty no wonder that are El Rincon hopefully we'll be able to capture this this poem and and share it with us the broader Community but thank you a text so much and Antoinette who wears are amazing or this behind-the-scenes like all the what is Flyers this entire slideshow she has worked so tirelessly on it so thank you Antoinette huge congrats you thank you all thank you and so bye. goodnight Carrie for women's History Month starts tomorrow and I hope this continues.
