Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Q: What is volunteer clearance? What does it mean to be a cleared volunteer?
A: Volunteer clearance is a process required by the district for any volunteer activity during school hours that involves working with students, to ensure the safety of our students. Once you have completed the process, you are considered a cleared volunteer throughout your student's CCUSD career.
  • Q: What are the steps to becoming a cleared volunteer?
A: STEP 1- Attend a volunteer orientation with Dr. Hodge.
STEP 2- Complete the Volunteer Application and turn it into Mrs. Hamme in the school office.
STEP 3- Provide payment to the school district for the filing fee. [Note: currently waived as of 11/29]
STEP 4- Complete the Live scan process (now available through CCUSD:
STEP 5- Wait for your clearance approval (one or two weeks at most). Contact Mrs. Hamme in the front office to verify you have been cleared.
  • Q: Do I need to be cleared in order to volunteer?
A: No. We have plenty of volunteer opportunities that do not require clearance. These include activities after school or on weekends (Student Store and many of our family events), independent efforts (collecting or delivering items, organizing materials, coordinating activities).
  • Q: How do I find out about volunteer opportunities?
A: Opportunities are advertised through the volunteer email list, in the Rocket Review, in the El Rincon Rockets FB group, and right here on this page (http://volunteer.elrinconpta.org).
  • Q: How do I get on the volunteer email list?
A: If you have filled out the Volunteer Interest Form or signed up for something through SignUpGenius, you should be receiving the volunteer emails that are also included below. If you have not received these emails, please email [email protected] so we can try to figure out why.
  • Q: I am not able to make an ongoing or long-term commitment. Can I still volunteer?
A: Yes! We have plenty of opportunities that require only an hour or a morning/afternoon/evening.
  • Q: I would like to take a more active role OR I have an idea for something that doesn't exist OR I want to volunteer but can't find an opportunity that's a good fit. What should I do?
A: Please contact Teresa Wong at [email protected], and we'll discuss!

Happy new school year, El Rincon volunteers! We are so happy to have you join/return and excited for a great year. Our community totaled over 3497 volunteer hours in the 2022-23 school year, and we hope to build on that to make an even bigger impact on our school and scholars in 2023-24.

Volunteer Clearance

Volunteer clearance is required in order to volunteer in the classroom, on campus during the school day, or on field trips. Clearance is district-wide and lasts throughout your scholar's CCUSD, so if you completed it in a previous year, you're still set.

Here are the steps to becoming a cleared volunteer:
STEP 1- Attend a volunteer orientation with Dr. Hodge.
STEP 2- Complete the Volunteer Application
STEP 3- Provide payment to the school district for the filing fee with the CA department of education.
STEP 4- Complete the Live scan process - Now available through CCUSD
https://safety.ccusd.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1673516&type=d&pREC_ID=2399124
STEP 5- Wait for your application to clear!

Dr. Hodge will be holding volunteer orientations this week at her Coffee & Chats at 9am on Tuesday, August 29 (TK/Kinder) and Thursday, August 31 (Grades 1-5) - see flyer below for details.

If you need to attend an orientation but cannot make it to a Coffee & Chat, keep an eye out on the Rocket Review for the announcement of future orientations. You can also email me, and I'll do my best to keep you posted.

Non-Volunteer Updates

A reminder that our In-N-Out Rocket Restaurant Night fundraiser is this Wednesday - the In-N-Out truck is coming to Blanco Park! We exceeded our 300 ticket minimum, and In-N-Out will now be serving 4:30-7pm! And you can still buy tickets, but please do so soon because sales will close when we run out of tickets. https://checkout.square.site/buy/3VVKDABJALOEMYOQTZSOYFHT

Also, save the date: Our first PTA General Association meeting of the 2023-24 school year will be on Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30pm in the Cafetorium or via Zoom. We will be celebrating El Rincon's designation as a 2022-2024 National PTA School of Excellence and strongly encourage in-person attendance!
