Mr. Risher's Second Grade Class - Welcome Back Letter

August 27, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year.  I am Mr. Risher, and I am very happy about being your child’s Second Grade teacher.  This is my sixteenth year of teaching here at El Rincon. I previously taught Fifth Grade and Third Grade as well.  We are going to have an exciting and productive year! I look forward to working with you this year as partners in your child’s education.  The first few weeks of school is a time for us to get to know each other and learn the routines of our classroom.

Homework is a very important aspect in the building of good study habits and developing a sense of responsibility for learning.  Checking your child’s assignments and making sure that assignments are completed on time will do much to ensure your child’s success.  Homework will be assigned via a homework packet. Packets will be sent home every Monday and will be collected every Friday. The assigned work for each night will be due the following day and collected on Friday.

Students are expected to read independently for at least 20 minutes every day.  This is in addition to assigned homework. A reading log will be sent home and collected at the end of each month. Besides reading materials that you may have at home, students will have access to both the classroom and school libraries.

Attached to this letter is instructions for sign up for Bloomz, an app that I use to share information, class/school news, and communication.  I can also be reached via email at jasonrisher@ccusd.org or call and leave a message at (310) 842-4340.

I look forward to positive and exciting year, working together with you on behalf of your child.
