Welcome to first grade! We are off to a great start! We are getting to know our classmates, first grade routines, and classroom procedures.  We have begun our first  Language Arts unit, "Let's Read."  We're sharing a great variety of poems and stories centered around books and the joy of reading.  We're also learning about why people write and how they get started.  The students have all met Leo, our classroom lion puppet who is helping them to listen for sounds in words.  We are practicing "ball and stick" manuscript printing and learning that our names begin with capital letters followed by lowercase letters.
