Welcome to Kindergarten!  I look forward to getting to know you, and your children!
School begins daily at 8:45 am (we meet on the big yard), and ends at 3:15 pm(students are picked up at Room 1 door) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Wednesday is Early dismissal, and students are picked up 1:45 pm.
If your child is in after school care, they will pick him/her up.  If you are not picking up your child, make sure that this person is listed on the Emergency card.
*Please turn in School Supplies as soon as possible.  You do not need to write your child's name on these supplies, because we share them as a class.  Thank you for helping our classroom!

*Please turn in all paperwork.  The orange  kindergarten information sheet should be turned directly to me.  It is kept in the classroom.
*Please turn a change of clothes for your child in a gallon-sized Ziplock with your child's name on the bag.  I keep these in the classroom, in the event of an emergency, so that you do not have to make a trip to the school.
Book orders due date to follow.
We are collecting boxtops for our school.  Look for products that have boxtops, clip and turn them in to our classroom.  The class that collects the most boxtops wins a party!

We will meet on the big yard each morning.  Please be there by 8:40.

Back to School Night:  Wednesday, September 21st.
Information to follow!

Language Arts Unit 1:  School.  We review our letters.  We learn about school.
Guided Reading:  We will determine your child's reading level, and books will be assigned accordingly.
Math:  Number One to Five.  We begin learning to write and recognize our numbers.  We learn our Calendar.  We will spend much time this year with a focus on Cognitively Guided Instruction in math.
Your child will work with Counting Collections!  More info to follow.

Science: We go to the Science lab every other Thursday.  We will participate in hands-on, inquiry-based learning throughout the year, with a focus on Next Generation Science Standards and Engineering.
Social Studies:  Family and Friends.
Lucy Calkin's Writing Workshop:  We will focus on our Narrative writing to start, and our "small moment" stories. We are a community of writers.
Character Counts:  We will learn about good citizenship, and our 6 Pillars.
Technology:  We are fortunate to have iPads to share in our class.  Students will work on various math applications, and our RAZ kids, Reading A-Z program.
We go weekly to Computer Lab, and Library.  We visit the Science lab too, when we are not doing our room experiments.

Please reinforce our Kindergarten rules with your child:

1.  Sitting quietly and in our own space.
2.  Raising our hands.
3.  Walking in the classroom.
4.  Walking quietly in line, and following teacher directions the first time.
5.  Respecting our friends, and embracing our differences.
6.  Listening ears.
